Experience of Women

For four years CSGS ran a project called the Experience of Women at the University of Chicago. This project, undertaken by both faculty and students, was designed to collect, record, and present a major history of the role and experience of women at the University of Chicago. It included seventy-one oral histories from the University's alumae, faculty, and staff collected by undergraduates and made available to the public; a seminar for undergraduate students to initiate archival research using the Special Collections Research Center; and public exhibitions of individual student projects held at the Center and a larger exhibition in Special Collections.

The exhibit "On Equal Terms": Educating Women at the University of Chicago was on display from March 11 through July 14, 2009, in Special Collections at the Regenstein Library. The multimedia exhibit contained both archival material and oral histories and was the result of a unique collaboration among undergraduates, graduate students, library staff, and faculty at the University of Chicago.
